Computer Requirements

For best performance, Instructure products should be used on the current or previous major releases of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari. Because Instructure products are built using web standards, Instructure products run on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, or any other device with a modern web browser.

Instructure products only require an operating system that can run the latest compatible web browsers. Your computer operating system should be kept up to date with the latest recommended security updates and upgrades.

Canvas provides a list of basic computer system requirements to use and a browser check.

Supported Browsers

Not all browsers are created equal. Some work better with Canvas, and some may encounter problems.

  • We recommend Google Chrome and Firefox. Internet Explorer and Safari are NOT recommended.
  • Although Canvas “supports” a list of browsers, some are supported less than others.
  • Use browsers with current updates. Most likely your browser is set for auto update. Visit the What Browser Am I Using website to find out what browser and what version you are using. Then, check the Canvas Supported Browser page to see if your version is supported. If not, you can manually update your browser.
